The Best Blinds for Bathrooms

How to choose blinds and shutters that cope with condensation and humidity in a bathroom, without compromising on privacy or style.

A venetian blind suited to bathrooms

Bathrooms combine two challenges at once: needing reliable privacy, often on a window overlooked by neighbours, while coping with more sustained humidity and condensation than almost any other room in the house.

Faux wood and aluminium Venetian blinds

Both handle humidity confidently without warping, swelling, or discolouring, and give you precise control over light and privacy by adjusting the slat angle — useful for a bathroom window that faces a neighbouring house or street. Aluminium is the more water-resistant of the two if your window is directly above a bath or in a wet zone.

Waterproof shutters

Purpose-made waterproof ABS shutters are one of the most popular bathroom choices we fit — genuinely unaffected by steam and splashes, easy to wipe clean, and giving a solid, high-end finish that most fabric products can’t match in a wet room. Café-style (tiered) shutters are a popular option here too, keeping the top open for light while the bottom stays private.

Coated roller blinds

A PVC-coated or specially treated roller blind fabric copes well with bathroom humidity and wipes clean easily, making it a more affordable alternative to shutters where the window doesn’t take direct splashes.

What to avoid

  • Real wood Venetian blinds or wood shutters, which can warp, swell, or discolour with sustained humidity exposure.
  • Unlined fabric Roman blinds or curtains, which can develop mildew in a consistently humid bathroom without good ventilation.
  • Any uncoated natural fibre fabric directly in a wet zone around a shower or bath.

Ventilation still matters

Whatever you choose, good extraction (an extractor fan used consistently, or a window opened after bathing) will extend the life of any window treatment in a bathroom — even the most humidity-resistant products last longer with reasonable ventilation rather than trapped, sustained damp air.
