Fabric

Fabric is usually the single biggest cost factor, and it’s driven by both the quantity needed (wider windows and fuller headings use significantly more fabric) and the fabric itself — a simple cotton or linen blend costs a fraction of a premium jacquard, velvet, or designer print. As a rule of thumb, doubling the fullness of a heading (a fuller, more luxurious gather) roughly doubles the fabric quantity required.

Lining

Standard cotton sateen lining adds a modest amount to the cost. Blackout or thermal lining costs more, and interlining — the soft layer that gives curtains real weight and drape — adds further cost in both fabric and the extra work involved in constructing the curtain. Heading style

Pencil pleat and eyelet headings are generally the most economical to make. Pinch pleat and goblet pleat headings involve more hand-finishing and buckram, so they cost more but give a more tailored, structured look. Wave headings (hung from a specific track and glider system) sit in the middle, depending on the track chosen.

Poles, tracks and fitting

Hardware is a separate line item from the curtains themselves, and ranges widely — a simple metal track costs much less than a decorative hand-finished wood pole from a premium collection.
